SQL server native tools VS Commvault enterprise backup solution

Does anyone have experience using Commvault backup solution? Our organization is considering switching from using native SQL server maintenance tools to Commault enterprise backup/recovery solution. Management has asked me to disable all native SQL backup jobs.

Since I don't know much about Commvault and what it does off, I'm a bit leery of the change and would like to know if Commvault offers a better backup/recovery solution to SQL server native tools.

What are some of the questions should I ask the Commvault Technical team?

Hi @zillabaug,

I don't have any experience with Commvault so I can't comment on that.

You say that you're considering the switch, however, they've asked you to disable all native SQL backup jobs and you've not even switched to another solution. This sounds VERY dangerous, don't disable them till you've looked at, tested and implemented another solution. Are your managers DBA's or experienced with SQL Server in any way?

The maintenance tasks aren't the greatest, however, at least they work! There are many backup solutions out there, but I'd recommend looking Ola Hallengrens solution (it's considered one of the best) or Red Gate SQL Backup. Maybe some others will point you in the direction of other solutions.
