I have downloaded/installed SQL Server2014 and SSMS on my laptop. There are no servers/databases/schemas yet to connect to. How can I create a server to put data into? Connect to Server points to my laptop name /SQLEXPRESS and fails not found since it doesn't exist yet! I want to create Adventureworks first. USE [master] RESTORE DATABASE AdventureWorks2014 FROM disk= 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MAD08H60330\SQLEXPRESS\Backup\AdventureWorks2014.bak' WITH MOVE 'AdventureWorks2014_data' TO 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MAD08H60330\SQLEXPRESS\DATA\AdventureWorks2014.mdf', MOVE 'AdventureWorks2014_Log' TO 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MAD08H60330\SQLEXPRESS\DATA\AdventureWorks2014.ldf' ,REPLACE error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified
Thank you! **I learned yesterday** that I'm being upgraded from Windows7 to Windows 10 later this week. I think that means switching from 32-bit to 64-bit. My plan now is to uninstall and install 64-bit next week. Does that make sense? Meanwhile, SS Manager results, just in case you're interested: **SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)** Stopped -- Start fails, times out. **Full-text Filter Daemon Launcher (SQLEXPRESS)** Running and SQL Server Browser Running (Start worked.) **SSRS** and **SQL Server Agent** Stopped. -- Start fails, times out. Registered Servers window shows **Database Engine : Local Server Groups : mymachine\sqlexpress** -- this won't connect "not found or not accessable provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26) also **Database Engine : Central Management Servers** (right click says Register CMS, fails error: 26) Thank you for your time and attention! I've been out of SS for almost two years; I'm SME for a conversion project going to SS from mainframe IMS later this year.
