Can i add SQL2016 to SQL2012 AG

Hi friends,

Can i add SQL 2016 as a new replica to existing SQL 2012 Availability group?

We have SQL 2012 with 1 Primary and 2 Secondaries on WSFC. I want to add SQL 2016 as a new secondary replica to existing cluster

Only as part of a rolling upgrade. You wouldn't be able to have the 2016 instance as read-able, as the moment you bring the database online, it will upgrade the database engine version - then no further logs could be written to it from the 2012 replicas.

HI Kev, Thanks for the response We are planning for upgrade. hence i want to add 2016 as readable secondary. failover 2012 to 2016 to make it primary and then upgrade the other 2012 node to 2016. Can you direct me to any documentation on this please?
