Field showing #Deleted in Access 2010

I have an Access 2010 front end linking in to SQL Server backend tables. I have built a query in Access and one field shows #Deleted for Null values when the query is run, Non-Null values show the expected text. If I do a sort on another field and re-run the query the Null values are blank i.e. no more #Deleted in the field, the Non-Null values again show the text as expected. Does anybody have idead what causes this behaviour??
