creating alias for report url

Hi all, I need to create a alias for my report server.By default when i deploy a report i goes to http://machinename:80/reportserver, instead i want it to be http://newname/reportserver. Any help on solving this issue is greatly appreciated. TIA Aruna

You can edit your report project to point to the new server name. Right click on the project node, choose Properties, and edit the TargetServerURL.

Hi David, Thanks for your reply. I don't have a new server.instead i need to create an alias for the existing server.

from the perspective of the report, this is an entirely different server name. Just pretend you have a new server, and put the desired name into the TargetServerURL. In order for it to work, there must be a corresponding DNS entry (you must be able to browse to http://newname/reportserver in a browser)
