Moving data between 2008r2 and 2014 via web services

I have a feeling I know the answer to this question already but I want to ask just because I want to make sure I'm not making incorrect assumptions. Here's the scenario. We are moving to an all virtual environment within the next month or two and are migrating our DB's from 2008r2 to 2014. One of the issues we are trying to work through is that we have sales reps with a local sql express database (2008r2) who will perform a data sync with a central database via the application and web services. The central database will be migrated from 2008r2 to 2014 as part of the upgrade. Now I am assuming moving the data to sync between the two different versions, including taking data from the central (2014) instance and inserting/updating/deleting into/from the 2008r2 express version, should not be an issue. Am I correct in that assumption? According to upgrade advisor, we aren't using any deprecated features/db code so I would think the rest is simply just 'data' moving.
