Free SQL scrubbing tools?
As a software consultant and DBA, I've run into many cases where we need to get a client's scrubbed time and billing database for testing purposes. Since each DB tends to have custom tables, scripting individually is usually out of the option. Are there any freeware tools or tools inside SQL that can do this? We are familiar with Redgate's DataGenerator, Anonymous Data and Data Masker, though neither works for all of our cases. -Redgate is expensive to charge our clients to get, and just generates new data. -Anonymous Data is the best, but requires more than db_writer permission on the DB. -DataMasker okay, but not free.
I'm not immediately familiar with additional tool. But do have a question regarding Anonymous Data... Presumably, the client is preparing this database for you on a non-production server so needing more than db_datawriter would not be an issue if it gets you access to the "best" tool?
DataVeil might be an option. Price might not jive with your clients but it's an option.
