sql-server Developer to DBA

I am working as a sql-server developer. I have working knowledge in T-SQL and SSRS etc. I am interested to change my career as a sql-server dba. I have limited experience in database administration (backups, migration scripts, jobs etc..) etc. Could some one help out how to gain some real time experience in sql-server administration as a developer. any useful link also would be a big help. Thanks for the help Baiju

Is there a SQL Server user group in your area? That would be a great place to start. Talk some DBAs there and get some ideas that apply where you live. I gather there are websites that enable people to do free work for charities etc. You might be able to use that to add real references to your CV.

If you are looking for some virtual chapters, the SQL PASS organization has a good offering of virtual chapters. You can look them up here, http://www.sqlpass.org/PASSChapters/VirtualChapters.aspx

@David wimbush Thanks for the suggestion. But unfortunately there is no sql-server user group in my area. I will definitely looking for some online sql-serve user groups. Coming to websites, I already did a search regarding this. I found some websites which provide online dba jobs. But they also expecting real time experience. could you provide some charity websites where I can get start with a part-time dba job. Well I can do it for free because it solely for learning purpose. Thank you

I'm afraid I don't know any specific sites for the charity thing. It's just something I heard about once. Have you approached your employer about this? They might be happy to help you learn if they get the benefits.
