Unfortunately I do not see a real question here, but am going to step out on a limb and answer what I think the question, which is what are the roles and responsibilities of a dba? Based upon this, I am assuming that either you are a brand new DBA, or looking into the role of a DBA for your future. Unfortunately there is not a real answer to this question, as it varies from one company to another. But I will give you a couple of links to give a general idea. I will say though that there is a lot to it, and one at times has to be creative about it. There are also politics involved at times as you work with Corporate Executives down to the developers and networking people. There is also a lot of on call time. So if you are looking at it as a get-over job as one person I know thought, then as he found out this isn't the place to be. Check out these links for a general idea of what we do:

TSQL coding, network operations, server admin, Storage. So we are a jack of all trades, but we are also masters of most. We do our share of discussing items with each group.
