SSRS migration from 2005 to 2008r2

Hello, I am migrating the SQL server Reports from 2005 to 2008 R2, restored the databases reportserver and reportservertempdb from 2005 to 2008r2. even the encryption key was restored. then i tried to check the reports then allt he reports are available but when i tried to access the reports i am getting the error **An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) The report server is unable to access encrypted data. Apply a back-up key or delete all encrypted content. (rsEncryptedDataUnavailable)** i tried to access the reports before restoring the encryption key on 2008R2 which worked fine but the parameters and subscriptions are missing. so i restored encryption keys then i am getting the error. please suggest how to proceed here. as the encryption keys are of 2005 which are restored successfully on 2008r2.

the server names are also different for 2005 and 2008 R2 which are in different windows servers.

I'm just wondering if accessing the reports before you restored the encryption key has corrupted them and you might need to start again.

You say you restored the encryption keys, but did you restore the Reporting encryption key? The encryption key that's managed in the Reporting configuration manager, not in SSMS.

Hello David, yes i restored the encryption key that was present in Reporting Configuration manager only but not the SSMS. i am not aware that SSMS is also having the encryption key. please suggest how to restore that.

Hi Sandeep, don't worry about the SSMS bit. I just wanted to make sure you had restored the Reporting encryption key and not some other key. I did some Googling and I did find a reference that sometimes the restore of the key can fail but the UI says it was OK. It might be worth just going back into the Reporting configuration and restoring the key again.

There's a support thread here ( https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8c08005b-da3a-4437-9b7d-4827afa1d9ec/the-report-server-is-unable-to-access-encrypted-data-apply-a-backup-key-or-delete-all-encrypted?forum=sqlreportingservices) where the advice was to try backing up the key on the original server again and restore it a second time on the new server. If that fails there are some more suggestions on what to look into. In this guy's case, he actually solved it by starting again so Mr Magoo might be quite right. If any of those steps fix your problem, please update this thread to say what worked.
