Dear All ... I hope someone can help me with this issue I have a server named [Server1] member in domain Controller. I have two SQL instances on [Server1] . - [Server1 (DC\Kim)]default instance run under [NT Service\\MSSQLSERVER] account - [Server1\\SSSRSS]name instance run under domain user account [DC\sqlsrv] and this account is member on [Administrations Group] on [Server1] . I put the backup file on [c:\Backup] , when I tried to restore the DB , I couldn't find the backup file through the GUI from the two instance. until I added the [Server1\Users] group in the security folder [Backup] the backup file appear. And the Use that I login the [Server1] is member of Enterprise Admins ,Domain Admins and Schema Admins group. Also I checked the [Users Group] on [Server1] the members of this Group are : [DC\\Domain Users] ![alt text][1] So what is wrong with my security privilege. [1]: /storage/temp/3175-1.jpg

It has to do with which service that SQL Server itself is running under and if that service has access to the drive in question.

but the service have full access , correct me if I wrong, it's not enough that the [DC\sqlsrv]is member on [Administrations Group] on [Server1], and what about the virtual accounts that can access the network in a domain environment.

Today I restarted all the servers , Now any SQL services run under Domain users that are member of Administrator can see the backup files from GUI , but the service run under virtual account [NT Services] or Network Services from GUI I can't see the backup file until I add the [Users Group] in the folder security...Why is that ?

any service running under the virtual account [NT SERVICE} will act as the computername on the network or for authentication to a folder\file. Grant the computers account DC\Server1$ access to the folder and the service will be able to access the files Regards Perry
