SQL server 2012 installation for SCOM

Hi, I need to install sql server 2012 for the use of SCOM monitoring. In future this might be migrated to a Cluster. Now my question is, do i need to do a standalone installation or do i need to install a single node sql 2012 failover cluster? Please help

Yes, you can install a single node cluster of SQL Server. If you do a standalone installation of SQL Server and then down the road you want to cluster it, you'll have to rebuild (as far as I know) the instance. If you are fairly confident that you will add a second (or more) nodes later, I would install a single node cluster. Older article, but still valid: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/cindygross/archive/2011/03/01/can-i-have-a-single-node-sql-server-cluster.aspx Documentation from BOL: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179530(v=sql.110).aspx Hope that helps!
