connection problem between sql servers

having problems connecting from current production sql 2008 enterprise server and the newly installed sql 2008 r2 enterprise server. can't connect from 2008 r2 management studio on my workstation. please advise.

Please post the error. This often happens when the TCP/IP protocol is not enabled for the new instance (SQL Configuration Manager and instance restart required)

Thanks KenJ. I did have to enable TCP/IP in Configuration Manager. Is it also that I couldn't connect to the new SQL 2008 R2 instance from my SQL 2008 Management Studio on my workstation? After upgrading my SSMS to SQL 2008 R2 on my workstation, I was able to connect to new 2008 R2 instance. Thanks for the help.
