I followed the steps outline in the url below to create a link server on SQL server 2000 . However, when I tried to execute a test job, sql server denied access. http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/SQL+Server+2000/69475/ error Server: Msg 17, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Does anybody have a clue as to whats going on?

Try creating the linked server using the GUI. Maybe some item on your command line wasn't quite right. Can you post the actual command you ran?
