re:How to use Database mail feature in SQL Server 2000

I followed the steps outline in the url below to create a link server on SQL server 2000 . However, when I tried to execute a test job, sql server denied access.

http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/SQL+Server+2000/69475/

error Server: Msg 17, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

Does anybody have a clue as to whats going on?
