Nope, these are only deprecated which means that you can still use in application/scripts for this version. But this is in list of discontinued feature which will impact the application/scripts if used after discontinued. They can still be used for workload analysis. As per below links, in SQL 2014, there is no as such feature that will break the application, only have behavior change where XML used. Below are excerpts from article mentioned. In earlier versions of SQL Server, queries against an XML document that contains strings over a certain length (more than 4020 characters) can return incorrect results. In SQL Server 2014, such queries return the correct results. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143179(v=sql.120).aspx https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143359.aspx Also, run upgrade advisor before upgrading it. It will give healthy idea about new versions impact.

So am I right in my understanding that if we are upgrading from 2008R2 to sql 2014 then server side trace capturing Event number 125 (Deprecation Announcement) and Event number 126 (Deprecation Final Support) in SQL 2014 trace will also include SQL 2012 ? And what will be the best way to ensure the below are also covered ? Discontinued Database Engine Functionality in SQL Server 2014 Breaking Changes to Database Engine Features in SQL Server 2014 Behavior Changes to Database Engine Features in SQL Server 2014 Will these be covered by upgrade advisor or serverside trace ? Or anything else is needed ?

Yes, they should include SQL 2012 also. Since, there is no as such discontinued feature in SQL 2014. It is always preferable to run upgrade adviser before upgrade and they point out issues which can obstruct the smooth upgrade. Also, upgrade adviser may not sniff the features used in dynamic SQL and in application that are not supported in new version.
