I am able to back up and restore to Server but cannot make a connection between from Server to Express but can go Express to Server. Any body any ideas thanks

What are you trying to do? Make a linked server connection? an ad-hoc OPENROWSET query?

Assuming you are using linked server for you connection make sure the bits are the same on both editions. For example, if Express is 32bit and other instance is 64bit that Link Server connections won't play nice. Here is a good thread on this. http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic847626-149-1.aspx
