Upgrade Windows Server 2003 to 2008 R2, SQl Server 2008

I have a pair of servers running Windows Server 2003. Soon, I will need to upgrade them to at least Windows Server 2008 R2. I do not know if I will be able to go to 2012 - for now I would say 2008 R2 is more likely. The servers currently run SQL Server 2008 (not R2). As of right now, I am under the impression that will not be getting an upgrade. Are there any "gotchas" I need to be aware of for this upgrade? The purpose of this is to bring the application up to .NET 4.5.2

You can upgrade from SQL Server 2008 to 2012 without any issue. I don't recommend any upgrade. A better solution is to install a new server and move the databases.

Jaime - i agree 100%. Unfortunately, that probably isn't an option. Need to upgrade Server 2003 to 2008 (or 2008 R2), on the existing hardware.
