How to make sure that the master key and its certificate is dropped completely from the Master DB in the instance?
I have created the master key then certificate for it and took the back of the certificate with the private key aswell, later i set the encryption on/off for the user database and now i am trying to delete/drop the master key and its certificate that i have created, but i am unable to do so. i am sure that i have set the encryption OFF for the user databases that i have turned it ON earlier. Note: PASSWORD is the password that i used at the time of creating master key and for the private key at the time of backup. And I am connecting as sysadmin USE MASTER DROP MASTER KEY; GO ---BELOW IS THE ERROR MSG FOR THE ABOVE COMMAND Msg 15580, Level 16, State 1, Line 3 Cannot drop master key because certificate 'Cert4TDE' is encrypted by it. USE MASTER DROP CERTIFICATE Cert4TDE --Below is the error Msg when i try to drop the certificate Msg 3716, Level 16, State 15, Line 2 The certificate 'Cert4TDE' cannot be dropped because it is bound to one or more database encryption key. I even tried according to the below link
