How to Identify the new hardware requirements while upgrading a database server from sql server 2008 to 2012

Hi, We are in a process of upgrading the production database server from sql server 2008 to sql server 2012, to use the columnar storage feature(columnstore indexes) and large number of partitions available in 2012. Client does not trust its own DBAs and has asked us to provide the estimate for the hardware requirements such as : 1. Rough GBs of space required 2. CPU 3. Main memory 4. IOPS. Can you please help me list down the attributes that I should take into account to evaluate the above needs? e.g. existing table size, index size?? Do we need more space and memory to use columnstore indexes?

I would ask the client's DBAs what they think. They will have insight in to how large the database currently is, how quickly it is growing, how much memory it's using and how much disk activity it generates. If their DBAs don't know the answers, that would be the place to start. You could never just guess at these numbers. Fortunately, having the system already in place gives you the answers.
