How much memory and CPU for dedicated SSRS 2012 box
We are putting up a new SSRS 2012 box hat will be used by maybe 150 people at peak times. The OS will most likely be Windows 2008 R2. There won't be anything other than SSRS running on the box. How much CPU and memory would be enough but not too much? thanks a bunch
Shortest possible answer: More. There's no way to suggest a system based on the parameters you've outlined. But, 150 users with "a lot" of them running "one report" a day, it sounds like you won't need much of a system. But I'm still not even going to hazard a guess with such vague requirements. For example, what if that "one report" process 1 billion rows? Would a dual core system with 16gb of ram (the size of my laptop) support it? Nope. What if that report returns about 50 rows and there are only about 100 calls a day, now would my laptop support it? Probably. What you really need to do is get a very good estimate in the size of your data, the number of reports that will be run, the types of queries in those reports, the number of users, the number of likely simultaneous users, the apps supported (is it just SSRS and is that going to be put on the same system as SQL Server?), in short, a lot more information. Then it might be possible to guess at a good system.
