Procedure may be run without permissions but scalar-valued function needs permissions

This one may be run by any windows validated user from Microsoft Access: gdbSQLServer.Execute "[dbo].[udpARAging] '" & CDate([Forms]![frmPickDate]![txtPickDate]) & "'", dbSQLPassThrough but this one needs permissions, why? GenerateInfoCallSSN = gdbSQLServer.OpenRecordset("SELECT dbo.udfTempSSN() As TempSSN", dbOpenSnapshot, dbSQLPassThrough).Fields(0) for both: Public gdbSQLServer As DAO.Database Set gdbSQLServer = DBEngine.Workspaces(0).OpenDatabase _ ("", False, False, "DRIVER=SQL Server Native Client 10.0;SERVER=USER-HP\GCUSERHP;DataTypeCompatibility=80;DATABASE=GCDATA;APP=Microsoft Windows Operating System;Trusted_Connection=Yes;MULTIPLEACTIVERESULTS=Yes;Pooling=True")

I am posting this on AccessForums.net, because it's probably a Microsoft Access question.
