SQL Server 2008 R2 "Waiting for Worker Thread" error in Log Shipping.

Dear All, We need some clarification in Logshipping & Hardware Configuration. Could you please help me in this regard. We are using SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard edition installed on 32-bit Windows server 2008 Enterprise edition. The Size of RAM is 16 GB and processor is quad core. The count of database is 240. Please find their details below. **Size of DBs Count of DBs** 0 - 100 MB - 134 nos 100 MB - 1 GB - 72 nos 1 GB - 2 GB - 17 nos 2 GB - 10 GB - 13 nos 10 GB - 20 GB - 4 nos We have configured all the databases for Log shipping. The questions are 1) We are receiving "Waiting for Worker Thread" alert in "Job Activity Monitor" on the all the LS_Backup jobs. 2) whether the above Hardware configuration is enough for 240 databases(used for mid size OLTP Applications). Thanks & Regards, K.P.Senthil Kumar

Just curious, what's the reasoning behind log shipping all of the databases? Is it for a DR purpose?

Yes. These are our client databases and as per the SLA all the databases have to be configured under Log shipping.

How are your backup/copy/restore jobs scheduled? Are they running at the same time? Maybe there is a way for you to spread your jobs across the hour so that you do not need as many worker threads at the same time. Now you still got a lot of log shipping going on in the same instance, you might have to dig deeper and look changing max worker threads if this is causing problems. Have a look at: [Worker Threads][1] [Worker Threads 2][2] [1]: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/slavao/archive/2006/09/28/776437.aspx [2]: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlsakthi/archive/2011/03/14/max-worker-threads-and-when-you-should-change-it.aspx
