Transaction Log in a Simple Recovery Mode

Does it matter where I put my Transaction Log if I am in Simple Recovery Mode? I put the Data and Transaction file on the same disk (RAID 5) and TempDB in RAID 10. Will I get any performance increase if I move the Trans Log to a separate drive?

Does it matter where you store your backup? Yes. It doesn't matter if you're in simple recovery or not. The basics of the transaction log and it's behavior are the same.

The question is a little confusing and indicates a common misconception about logfiles. The usage of a transactionlog is not different if you compare it against SIMPLE or FULL recovery mode. The only difference is that in SIMPLE mode, the space being used in the logfile is marked as "can be overwritten". Generally, you should put your data- and logfiles on seperate disk (in order to prevent IO issues). I recommend this free PDF from red gate: http://www.red-gate.com/community/books/sql-server-transaction-log-management

+1 for mentioning Red Gate and Tony & Gail's book. Probably should be +2.
