I'd suggest just using the Maintenance Plans. You're requirements are very simple and straight-forward, so you don't need a sophisticated script to take care of them. The Maintenance Plans will do exactly what you need with minimal work.

As Grant mentioned, Maintenance Plans will work just fine, however if you would prefer something codish, I would suggest checking out Ola Hallengren's Maintenance Solution. You can find the URL below. Just another option. Hope this helps! No arguments. Ola's scripts are great. I just find them to be like swatting flies with JDAMs if you don't have fairly sophisticated requirements. Gets the job done, but...

Use them myself... but the learning curve can be a little steep for newbies :)

No arguments here. Just was throwing it out there as an option. The OP can decide what is best for their environment/skill level. ;-)

Maintenance plans are good & easy to start with they are actually SSIS package, you have the right tools there to do stuffs like backup, notification, older File delete and the list goes. Also, it alllows you to generate the scripts for the plans you created.... But again scripts provides you greater flexibility, but should be error free. :-)
