Can Mirroring create problem when upgrade to different SP ?

HI All,

We are planing to upgrade our SQL Server 2005 SP2 to SP4.

We have mirroring implemented on this server .. Our Production server will be SP2 and development server will be upgraded to SP4. do this service pack upgrade create any problem in mirror. do it automatically come in sync once the patch upgrade or again we need to setup the mirroring for that database.

Do mirroring support the instance with different SP Version.

Thanks

You should be able to Pause the mirror and apply the SP. I personally do the following

  • Pause mirror
  • Patch partner
  • Resume mirroring (allow to catch up so there are no transactions pending)
  • Failover
  • Patch primary

Hope this helps. Only issue I can see with this is that during the patching process you have a single point of failure, but (touch wood) I have never had an issue patching just SPs.

Personally if you haven't done it before I would test first!

New code box

There's a new way to format code on the site - the red speech bubble logo will automatically format T-SQL for you. The original code box is still there for XML, etc. More details here.
