Dear all, It took me hours to figure out the problem and searched for the solution. I found many people get the same issue, but unfortunately, there was not any solution. Please help me to take a look at this problem. I used Windows 7 Home premium SP1. I installed SQL express 2008 and it failed. It said that: "Wait on the Database Engine recovery handle failed. Check the SQL Server error log for potential causes." I checked to the log file and found this: What should I do with this problem? I appreciate every hint/idea/suggestion from you all.

If you are you installing a named instance, you should replace MSSQLSERVER in the path with the instance name.

Thanks for your replies,
Dear Venkatreddy, I selected the default instead of named instance. I tried the named instance once or twice and I thought the wizard automatically renamed the MSSQLSERVER in the path. Do I have to rename anything else it omitted manually?
Dear Tim, I have a 64 bit OS and try to install the 64 bit installation media also. I intend to use the 32 bit installation media. Hope it may help.
Is the error above the full error, can you post the results on the install log?
Dear Tim,
