Is there any reason why you've restricted yourself to SQL Server 2005 in your question?

SSMS AddIns are notoriously tricky to implement or so I understand from talking to developers that have done/tried it.

I have just searched for the phrase "writing ssms addin" and got lots of hits, some from people I know and others too. I'd suggest you read through those.

New code box

There's a new way to format code on the site - the red speech bubble logo will automatically format T-SQL for you. The original code box is still there for XML, etc. More details here.
