Hi I wonder if someone can advise me. I wrote a bunch of reports in Visual Studio 2008 and then my local Dev Server got upgraded to SQL 2008 R2 from SQL 2008. Now Visual Studio is saying I need to upgrade my projects from within BIDS. I haven't upgrade the server the reports are being deployed to and I'm concerned about a compatibility issue. Is this expected? Many thanks

Yes there are some compatibility issues. Like to downgrade the 2008 R2 edited Report back to 2008, this person's article helped quite a few ( it took some time to search it again ) So, If you save a SQL Server 2008 Report Server project in the SQL Server 2008 R2 version Business Intelligence Development Studio you can no longer open it in the SQL Server 2008 version of Business Intelligence Development Studio. But at the same time, You can use the SQL Server 2008 R2 version of Business Intelligence Development Studio to open, modify, preview, save, and deploy both SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services reports. This makes it easy to work with both earlier and later versions of reports and Report Server projects by using the later version of Business Intelligence Development Studio. The SQL Server 2008 R2 version of Business Intelligence Development Studio supports the following scenarios:
Hence, now unlike the old days, where there were cases of having BIDS 2000, 2005 and 2008 on the same machine, now we can live with SQL 2008 R2 only if we do have SQL 2008 and 2008R2 to work with. For detailed information, please visit this link Many thanks

+1 good question. I know they definitely broke between 2005 and 2008, but 2008 and R2 - I wouldn't like to guess ....
