My company specifically encourages certification for certain positions, and SQL Server 2008 R2 is scheduled to be released in May. I have been reading quite a bit about it, but have not found any good resources specifically for preparing for the certifications. What is the best preparation for this particular series of certifications? Also, has anyone seen a timeline for them, I have not found that yet.

So far I see no timeline for 2008 R2 for a certification. I had also heard rumor that MS was not going to create a certification track for R2 SQL Server - since so little changed from the database side. The majority of changes are in BI - and there may be a certification in that (still no timeline though). Here is a good source for training material. http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/training/sql-server.aspx It would surprise me if they don't have a certification path. There are some companies that are very interested in having their employees certified int he programs they use.

I think the only area I would be surprised is if they didn't do a cert for the BI side.

all sorts of exams, training resources and study options here http://learning.microsoft.com/Manager/BrowseCatalog.aspx?browse=pt&pid=55%252371&cid=71 some are R2 specific, others less so. I have heard good things about the self-paced training kits
