If you already use the product a lot, then SecondShot may be your best bet first. You can try the exam for real, and then get a report which shows you your weak areas. This will let you target your study.

And of course, you might pass first time, in which case you can study without the pressure of still needing to pass an exam.

I guess really it comes down to what you want to get out of the certification. If you want to use it as an excuse to learn, then study as much as you can. Personally I prefer to spend my time learning things that are relevant to my job, rather than outlying areas that I might only be studying to be able to get past an exam.

I prefer the self-paced approach. Install Developers edition on a server. Then work through the exercises and practice problems. After that, try to get as much hands-on practice with the product as you study.

It depends on your learning style and level of experience. If you have relevant experience, I think the self-paced study guides are are plenty.

The study books I've purchased in the past have just been to get the included practice exam, which matches my style pretty well. I'd imagine that somebody who takes the study-the-chapters-and-work-through-the-provided-exercises approach would find the book useful as well.

I created a website about the resources I used to pass the 70-433 and my experience with them at www.sqlsolver.com. I agree with Mr. Farley that the Second Shot offer is great and I plan to use it when I take the 70-451 shortly. Since your score on the exam is broken down by subject area, if you don't pass the first time you'll easily be able to identify study topics for the retake.

New code box

There's a new way to format code on the site - the red speech bubble logo will automatically format T-SQL for you. The original code box is still there for XML, etc. More details here.
