We are installing SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and have an issue where the service account cannot be verified. The account is a local admin (not domain admin). It can start and stop services. It can also enable disabled services. The install is wrapped in the GoodLink installation package. Contacted the vendor and all they say is the password must not be right - or - the account does not have proper authority. The system administrator in charge of this project says it has worked fine on two other servers within the last month. We've done the uninstall/re-install. Checked that the registry was clean of all previous installs. Tried using a different domain admin account - all with the same results. I'm at a loss as to what to check next. Has anyone experienced this? How did you overcome it? If it did not already work on two other servers, then I would say it has something to do with the 3rd party software. Thanks, Paul

The exact error said "The service account cannot be verified". I suggested that our administrator contact the vendor to determine a workaround. My suggestion was to get a copy of MS SQL 2005 Express edition & install it. then install the software. They just got back to us and that was their suggestion as well. They also had a new version of the software. Instead of messing around with the previous version, we just finished installing the new version and the problem went away. We are stil lnot sure why it worked on the other 2 servers, but this issue is solved. Thanks Shawn for the interest.

What error do you get exactly with the SQL Server installation?
