How to migrate access reports to SQL Server 2008

Hi,

I am about to migrate from Access 2003 database to SQL Server 2008 R2 database using Import / Export Wizard.

My client has few reports in Access 2003. Will these reports will be migrated too while migrating database.

Can anyone pls help me with my above query ?

Thanks

No. Those won't be converted. There is not a native reporting utility within SQL Server itself. Instead there's a separate service called Reporting Services. [Here's a mechanism for doing that.][1]

Hi Grant,

Thanks for your reply. So 1) I will move database from Access 2003 to SQL Server 2008 using Import / Export Wizard. 2) I will use SSRS to move reports from Access 2003 to SQL SErver 2008.

So, once I move reports, 1) Will report loose few of the features Or all the features will be preserved 2) And, will reports will be pointing to SQL Server 2008 after migration. Or I will have to do point them to SQL Server database manually.

Can you pls help me with above questions.

Thanks

You'll have to work with Reporting Services to ensure that the reports connect to the correct SQL Server instance. That should be part of the process outlined by Microsoft. Behavior of the reports might change, but anything you can do in Access, you do in Reporting Services, and a whole lot more. I'm not a Reporting Services expert, but if you post specific issues you have, I'll make sure someone I know who can answer those questions helps you out.

@Grant Fritchey It is on your profile page, but the email address is visible only to the moderators. So other users see that asking you "how bout them Red Sox?" might be not a good idea, but they don't see your email :)
