error message for back up failure

Hello

The system db backup is failing with error "'. Operating system error 995(The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request)"

What might be the reason?

How are you performing the backup? Are you using backup-software, a maintenance plan with a backup-task or "plain" T-SQL to create the backup?

EDIT

Which version of SQL Server? You say "System DB Backup". Which database do you mean? Master, MSDB, Model and TempDB are considered system databases.

That sounds like a third party software backup failure. What software are you using to perform your backups?
