Does your installation DVD have the genuine Microsoft software hologram on it?

You might have better luck installing the developer edition

Sorry, I just read the report you posted properly. You're trying to install Enterprise Edition on Windows XP and you can't do that. Enterprise Edition requires a server version of Windows. Check out the OS requirements on the SQL Server web site.

If you have it, you can install the Developer Edition on XP, which will give you all the features of Enterprise Edition but you can't use it for production work.

What edition are you trying to instal, and what's the operating system? Have you looked in the .log files the report lists?

(1) Try asking this as a new question, and provide the steps you've tried and the exact error message you get.

(2) Try "repair" rather than "install".

When I repair the sql server 2008 management studio

The following error has occurred:

The master database does not exist. Restore it from backup. The master log does not exist. Restore it from backup. The Database Engine error log location is missing from the Parameters key.

New code box

There's a new way to format code on the site - the red speech bubble logo will automatically format T-SQL for you. The original code box is still there for XML, etc. More details here.
