I'm guessing that this is a follow on to your recent question about installing service packs to active/active clusters.

I had a quick dig around and found a few possible solutions to your problem:

Installing SP2 on a 4 way active cluster - this is not the exact setup you have, but outlines how it should work.

11009 No passive nodes were successfully patched - says to look at SQL Browser

[Handling "No passive nodes were successfully patched"][4] - says to look at a hotfix (don't think this will help you though)

The steps according to these resources would be:

  • Fail the instances over to one node.
  • Make sure all cluster resources are online
  • Check the Cluster log for any errors/problems
  • Ensure SQL Browser is running (if only for the upgrade)
  • Run the SP install - all nodes of the cluster should receive the upgrade
  • You may have to restart the nodes
  • Fail back to all nodes
  • Done

rinse and repeat on node2 instance 2?? SPs are instance based installations.

New code box

There's a new way to format code on the site - the red speech bubble logo will automatically format T-SQL for you. The original code box is still there for XML, etc. More details here.
