Shrinking is not completing in SQL Server

Shrinking window gets hanged.

EDIT: This appears to refer to the GUI in SSMS.

Have marked this down as this is such an ambiguous question. What exactly do you mean by window? WHICH window?

Shrinking can be a very time consuming process. I script out the shrink command and run in it as a T-SQL script rather than using the GUI. It can be stopped in the middle of shrinking without causing a problem.

Shrinking can take a very long time to complete. Everything from a few minutes to a day and more.

I think OP is doing it via SSMS by selecting the shrinking option from the database

New code box

There's a new way to format code on the site - the red speech bubble logo will automatically format T-SQL for you. The original code box is still there for XML, etc. More details here.
