I've been wondering about this. You can get a badge for creating a tag that is used in 50 questions. I don't know how one does this. I've tried implicit creation by adding a non-existent tag on a question but the system comes back with a message that new users can't create tags. I'm pretty sure that by now most of us are not new users. Too bad. I think I could be credited with at least two tags that are now active: hp-polyserve (does anyone else support this?) and red-gate (which I am sure will be popular as the site catches on). IIS, HOTFIX, TROUBLE-SHOOTING (or PROBLEM-SOLVING) WEB, SITE, HARDWARE, VBSCRIPT, SOA, CLOUD, WINDOWS, WINDOWS-2003, WINDOWS-XP, QUESTION, and SHAREPOINT are outstanding candidates as I type. I recognize the need to keep tags standardized (see the tags I included for a prime example), but... how do we create new tags?

See this question: http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/4876/how-can-i-create-a-tag In short, you need 250 rep to create tags. Sigh... oh well. Wonder how many of my suggestions will be available before I hit 250 :)

Before the post was edited, the TAGs associated with this question where: meta, metadata and meta-data. Tomatoe, tomato.
Just up-voted your question. You should be past 250 now.
Thanks a ton! SEEDER-QUESTION is my first tag :)
Not quite Tomato - Tomatoe: 'meta' indicates 'about this site'. Whereas 'metadata' and 'meta-data' have a much more specific meaning in the context of data and database
I'd like to see
metareplaced withmeta-askscc, to make it very clear that we're not talking about metadata. I've created the flag, but I'm not sure it's appropriate for me to edit the 16 questions that usemeta(after evaluating each question).
