SQL Server 2000 Publisher with SQL Server 2005 Distributor

I have a SQL Server 2000 server that I want to publish some information from. I want to set up replication as a publisher, but I would like to move the distributor to another server to lessen the load on my SQL 2000 server.

Can I use SQL 2005 as a distributor in this scenario?

This KB is the best source of information if you're considering a mixed-version topology.

In your case, regardless of the replication model, it looks like SQL Server 2005 distributors can be used with SQL Server 2000 publishers.
