Patching instances of SQL Server 2005

I have two instances of SQL Server 2005 on my server. One is the default, and the other is named CRM. I want to apply Service Pack 3 to the default instance, but not the named instance because my software vendor does not support SP3 yet.

If I install Service Pack 3, will it only patch the default instance?

Yes only the selected instance will be patched.

Now the common tools will also be patched, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Tell your CRM vendor to get on it. SP3 has been out for a while now.
