Hi I installed early version of SQL Katmai 2008 on my Vista. Install was smooth but When I run Management Studio and enter either SQL or windows logins at initial login page I get following:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

Error connecting to 'servername\instancename'

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc.EnumeratorCore)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&LinkId=20476

Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo.UnSafeInternals.ManagementUtil.EnterMonitor(System.Object) (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc.EnumeratorCore)

BUTTONS:

OK

it is rather annoying because I installed SQL twice but cannot get pass through this error...

"Katmai"? Do you mean one of the Beta releases?

that's correct, however I found the solution!

basically after Katmai install I installed VS SP1 which breakes most of the previous CTP installs, hence SQL logins via Management Studio (Code Name 'Katmai') was impossible! Reinstall of product in correct order resolved the issue. following is the thread where I noted solution, which worked..

many thanks to all and Ben for review/comments..
